If you’re looking for opportunities for your students to work with population pyramids across the world, I created two clean worksheets. Students can either study population pyramids at the regional scale or country level by using the famous, PopulationPyramid.net website. Accessing the site is easy using the provided QR code. A follow up discussion or written assignment can address the significant contrasts between countries and regions. Get the free downloads HERE.

USA Pop Pyr THUMB

If you’re looking for worksheets with population scenarios of various populations across the United States, I sourced ten uniquely contrasting population pyramids from multiple sites so that students can “put a face to a name,” and match the population pyramids with its appropriate social and economic scenario, and then diagram it to the correct location on the map. Likewise, I also have this worksheet as a mix and match available without the map, for use at the end of a test, as a quiz, or short activity.

You can find the USA population pyramids mix and match HERE.

Germany Pop Pyr Blank Notes THUMB-23

If you are just getting started with population pyramids and want to give your students a lecture or worksheet on the basics, I have a worksheet with basic explanation and the famous 1996 population pyramid of Germany that illustrates the historical effects of economic, political, and social occurrences throughout the 20th Century. Kids can fill out the lecture notes and diagram as you explain it with the provided answer key.

Germany Lecture and Mix Match THUMB-23

If you are interested in both the guided lecture notes AND a mix and match worksheet for students to practice, or to use as an attention getter, you can check it out here.

Taking it one giant step further, you can lecture/diagram the contrasting causes and effects of demographic dips and blips for typical LDCs and MDCs. Obviously, there are exceptions to every rule when it comes to geographic comparisons, but this is a good conversation starter. There are also rural and urban scenarios for both LDCs and MDCs. Keys are provided alongside blank worksheets for the kids.

Maybe you can find some use for these. I myself meant to create these for a long time now.

I’m finally happy to see it through and finally get to use them in my classroom.
